Walk to the Stone
£0.00
What better way to welcome in the New Year than a hearty walk to the famous Poet Stone!
Clear away the cobwebs, bring your family, guests and well-behaved dogs, and join a walk up to the poet Stone to enjoy the fabulous view over Steep and the South Down. All are welcome.
Meet in the Steep Village Hall car park at 10:45am for an 11:00am departure on January 1st.
Do bring a flask of tea or something stronger if you prefer (!), there are rumours of a nip of port at the top.
If you are bringing dogs please bring a lead and poo bags (polite reminder to take home or deposit dog toffee/wrapped hound gifts in a designated dog bin), and keep them under control. We regret that they are not allowed in the hall, but the gazebos will offer cover, if you want to have your soup and roll undercover.
The walk is steep in parts and can be muddy and slippery, so make sure you have appropriate footwear too, not forgetting a change of footwear for the hall. If you do make a mess, please hang around and help clear up afterwards – we have to wash the floor as the following day there is a fitness class starting at 06:30!
Once we are all back down, there will be soup & rolls, and hot drinks in the Village Hall. There will be two choices of soup, one vegetarian.
There is no charge to join, though we do ask you to add “tickets” to your basket and check out to help us with numbers for catering. Reserving a ticket does not imply an absolute commitment to come, likewise you are welcome if you haven’t indicated your attendance, (though please go to the back of any food queue!). Technically, if the walk is too much for you, you are welcome to come along just for soup – but please let us know by checking out!
There will be a collection bucket on the day for contributions, which are very welcome but not required. All funds raised will be put towards the upkeep of the Village Hall.
