Taste of Austria

Following on from our inaugural Rioja tasting, we are moving North-West to lesser drunk wine country – Austria! Once again we are being led by local wine connoisseur, Tim Clarke, just before he heads off to ….. Yes Austria on a wine tour of his own!  Tim’s guidance style is to taste wines in pairs, to compare and contrast taste subtle differences between similar wines.

To that extent and subject to any last minute changes to availability, this tasting could look something like this:

• First Pair – We start with some highly recommended Grüner Veltliner
  • Grüner Veltliner Reserve 3, Niederösterreich
  • Domäne Wachau ‘Weingärten Weissenkirchen’ Grüner Veltliner Smaragd 2021/22, Wachau
• Second Pair – We move on to a mixed pair 
  • Weingut Wieninger, Gemischter Satz 2021, Vienna
  • Weingut Rabl, “Ried Schenkenbichl”, Riesling Reserve, (Alte Reben) Kamptal
• Our Third Pair – For comparison we move on to some slighly less common Austrian wines Reds.
  • Feiler-Artinger, Blaufränkisch, Burgenland
  • Kracher Blend, 2 2016, Burgenland
• For our final Pair – We go Sweet and, typically, slight more expensive!.
  • Feiler-Artinger, On The QT Bin 33, Ruster Ausbruch, Burgenland
  • Kracher Muskat Ottonel Auslese 2020, Burgenland

Alongside the wines a number of Nibbles will be served, for both authenticity and as a palate cleanser!
